Turbine lube oil leak causes major fire at Cuba's Ernesto Guevara plant

Authorities said the Unit 1 fire at the Santa Cruz del Norte thermal plant started with an oil leak at the front of the turbine rotor; no one was hurt, but the unit was taken offline while Units 2 and 3 were readied to restart. Lube oil fires at the turbine front standard are a classic large loss, so oil line condition, shielding, and fire protection over the bearing area should be on every steam plant survey.
